Who Should I Contact?
Access points vary depending on your situation. Find the path that matches your needs.
Individuals & Single Adults
Single adults experiencing homelessness or at risk should contact Central Intake for assessment and referral.
Families with Children
Families with minor children have priority access to family shelter and rapid rehousing programs.
Veterans
Veterans may be eligible for HUD-VASH vouchers and VA-specific housing programs through our CoC partners.
Domestic Violence Survivors
DV survivors can access confidential shelter and housing support through the Women's Resource Center.
Adults with Serious Mental Illness
Permanent supportive housing and wraparound services for adults whose mental health needs require more than emergency shelter.
Recovery Housing & Programs
Sober, structured housing and peer support for people in recovery from substance use β a critical bridge to lasting stability.

Are you in imminent danger of domestic violence or sexual assault from an intimate partner?

Homeless Not fleeing domestic violence, after 5 pm on weekdays, on all weekends and on holidays contact the Homeless services after hours line at (540) 320-7028.
If NO and you are SINGLE or an ALL-ADULT household: During November through March refer to the To Our House program by calling Central Intake (540) 639-3159.
Do you have school-aged CHILDREN or younger? Refer to New River Family Shelter (540-382-6188) and/or The Hope House in Giles County (Giles Sheriff's Office, 540-921-3843).
Do you have a VETERAN and NRCA/NRFS is unable to house you tonight? Refer to Virginia Dept. of Veterans Services, Veteran & Family Support, Salem VA: 540-982-2463, opt 0request "homeless program".

Would paying a utility or rent bill keep you in your present housing? Refer to the local New River Community Action office in your area for Emergency Assistance.
Are you in jeopardy of becoming homeless within 14 days? Refer to Central Intake for a Prevention Screening (call 540-639-3159).
