Housing and Recovery: An Integrated Approach

Stable housing is a cornerstone of lasting recovery from opioid use disorder. Across the New River Valley, the connection between housing instability and substance use is well-documented — and addressing one without addressing the other rarely leads to long-term success.

NRVHP coordinates housing resources specifically designed to support individuals and families in recovery, including referrals to recovery housing, rapid rehousing with supportive services, and permanent supportive housing for those with long-term needs.

The NRV Recovery Ecosystem Partnership

NRVHP works closely with the New River Valley Recovery Ecosystem — a cross-sector initiative that conducts research, coordinates services, and advocates for policy changes related to opioid recovery across the region. The Recovery Ecosystem brings together healthcare providers, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and people with lived experience to build a more effective, integrated response.

Through this partnership, NRVHP applies research-based best practices to housing placement decisions — ensuring that recovery housing is not just available, but appropriate, supportive, and connected to the broader continuum of care.
