🌱Recovery & Housing

Recovery Needs a Foundation. That Foundation Is Housing.

Sustainable recovery from substance use is nearly impossible without stable housing. NRVHP connects people in recovery to sober living homes, recovery programs, and long-term housing support β€” part of a coordinated regional ecosystem built to help people reclaim their lives.

Recovery housing is available now β€” you don't have to wait until you feel "ready enough"

The NRV Recovery Ecosystem

Housing and Recovery, Working Together

The New River Valley is home to a robust recovery ecosystem β€” a network of organizations, programs, and peer supporters working to make lasting recovery possible. NRVHP is a core partner in this network, bridging the gap between addiction treatment and stable, permanent housing.

Whether you're leaving treatment, transitioning out of jail or prison, or simply ready to stop couch surfing, there are structured housing options designed to meet you where you are and support you as you build a stable life in recovery.

Types of Housing

Recovery Housing Options in the NRV

🏠

Oxford Houses

Self-supporting, democratically-run sober homes where residents hold each other accountable. No time limit β€” residents stay as long as they remain sober and contribute to the household.

🏑

Recovery Residences

Structured sober living homes with house managers and rules designed to support early recovery. A step up from treatment and a step toward independent living.

πŸ›€οΈ

Transitional Housing

Short-term, time-limited housing β€” typically 6 to 24 months β€” for people leaving treatment, incarceration, or crisis who need a stable base to rebuild.

🏘️

Permanent Supportive Housing

Long-term housing with no sobriety requirement, paired with voluntary services. Designed for people with co-occurring disorders or who have experienced chronic homelessness.

πŸ’Š

MAT-Friendly Housing

Recovery housing that accepts residents using Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) such as Suboxone or methadone β€” eliminating a common barrier to housing placement.

🌟

Peer Recovery Support

Peer support specialists with lived experience in recovery help residents navigate housing, benefits, employment, and community reintegration β€” someone who's been there.

Our Commitment

"Recovery and housing aren't two separate problems. They're one."

NRVHP coordinates with treatment providers, peer support specialists, and recovery housing operators across the region to make sure no one falls through the gap between getting clean and getting housed.

How to Get Connected

Starting the Process

Recovery housing referrals come through intake and through treatment providers. Both paths lead to the same support.

Call Central Intake

The NRVHP intake line can connect you to recovery housing options and peer support. Let them know you're in recovery or recently completed treatment.
