What Is Housing Counseling?
A Counselor in Your Corner
HUD-approved housing counseling agencies are trained and certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. They work with individuals and families at every stage of the housing journey — from first-time buyers getting ready to purchase, to homeowners facing foreclosure, to renters navigating a difficult landlord situation.
Sessions typically cover budgeting, credit review, mortgage options, rental rights, and long-term financial planning. Most services are free or offered on a sliding-fee scale.

Community Housing Partners
A HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency serving all income levels. Services include financial management education, homebuyer education, one-on-one mortgage consulting, down payment assistance, single-family home construction, and realty services.
Habitat for Humanity NRV
A non-profit building and counseling service for low-to-moderate income households. Services include budgeting, debt remediation, home buying guidelines, mortgage readiness, and home construction. Clients must have the ability to pay, have a need, and be willing to partner.
New River Community Action Housing Counseling
HUD-approved counseling for resolving or preventing mortgage delinquency, post-purchase guidance, rental topics, homeless prevention, and rapid rehousing. Emphasis on financial management and budgeting skills training.
SERCAP Housing Counseling
Counseling services include Pre-Purchase, Post-Purchase, Rental Counseling, Financial Literacy, Credit Counseling, Home Maintenance Education, and First Time Homebuyer Education — helping individuals prepare for successful homeownership.
